Welcome to the Bangalow Uniting Church

Join us each Sunday

as we

reflect, learn and celebrate.

The Bangalow Uniting Church, led by Rev Phil Dokmanovic, meet each week in Station Street, Bangalow.

We are a small, inclusive and caring congregation of all ages.

We are a friendly bunch, always open to newcomers, whatever your walk in life. We only worship together once a week but we are involved in the community in many ways- some overtly Christian, and some just caring or social. Our worship times can be quite traditional or sometimes rather modern, we don’t mind changing it up a bit! There is always a bit of chat; an ear if you need one and a smile for everyone.

We hope to meet you at worship, a special event, service project, or around the community!

Gathered Worship

We gather to worship most weeks at Byron Bay (9.30am) and Bangalow (5pm). If you are interested in joining us please contact us via the "Contact us" tab above to confirm our meeting times for that week.

Rev Phil will be present along with a volunteer who can offer a cuppa and something to eat. The space is available for a chat, prayer, meditation or reflection. This is also a time when anyone from our church community can drop in to say hi to their minister as well! So if you want to stop in and say hello or to chat or pray, please do so.

We hope to see you there over the next few weeks.

Recent Events

We are back!!!

After 6 months of not gathering in our buildings for worship due to COVID-19, the Church Councils of the Byron Shire Uniting Churches have both decided that it is time to regather for worship in our buildings. Over recent months the Councils have been preparing COVIDSafe plans and considering advice from our NSW/ACT Synod leaders as we have journeyed towards re-gathering. Due to the current protocols and requirements for public gatherings for worship, our gatherings will look and feel different to pre-COVID-19, so please familiarise yourself with the requirements before joining us in our buildings for gathered worship (these are included in this link).

For those not yet ready to return to gatherings in our buildings and for those who are ill or presenting with COVID-type symptoms, we will seek to continue to post a recording of weekly gatherings on our Facebook pages for you to access. Thank you for your patience and encouragement during this unusual season and we look forward to gathering together for worship in our buildings again. This information will be posted out to those who do not access online information, but feel free to share these details with those you connect with this week.

We will dance, move, sing, voice, tell, and play, on our own and with others, not as performance but as process. This will be an intentionally open and inclusive space, celebrating diverse expressions of age, culture, sexuality, gender, physical-ability, denomination and faith. All are welcome!

Fair Trade Fair Report

On Saturday 3rd November months of contacting, organising and advertising culminated in the Bangalow Uniting Church Fair Trade Fair. Although we regularly hold pre-Christmas street stalls selling Fair Trade goods, which have quite a following in Bangalow, this was our first attempt at a bigger better fair with other Fair Traders invited.
The Variety of Fair Trade goodies was excellent and we were well supported by locals who enthusiastically bought up big whilst enjoying Phil’s excellent Fair Trade coffee and munching on Bangalow ladies’ cakes and slices (not to be missed). The Raise the Roof choir performed twice and were absolutely fantastic.Their home grown Fair Trade song is now doing the rounds of Facebook Fair Trade groups and gaining them fame!
The Fair traders who came were impressed with the enthusiasm of Northern Rivers locals and are keen to do it again next year. It was great to see the church car park full of people and the church engaged in promoting an important social justice issue.
Thanks so much to everyone who contributed to the day or just came and bought things!

Fair Trade Fortnight

Bangalow Church ran a poster competition for local school children and donated prizes. The posters created by the children were displayed in shops all around Bangalow, and on the side of the Church for Fair Trade Fortnight.

Even thought Fairtrade Fortnight has finished for this year we hope that next time you shop, you will look for the Fairtrade Mark and remove the shadow of doubt about where your groceries came from.

The next Fairtrade event will be the Fair Trade Fair in Bangalow on 3 November.

Farmer's drought appeal...

A huge thank you to everyone who gave so generously throughout the week long drought appeal. The combined total from the Byron Bay Op Shop, the Market Day at the Mullumbimby Op Shop, and the offerings at all churches on Sunday 19th August means that we will be contributing over $7000 toward the Farmers Drought Appeal.
